The San Antonio Book Festival (SABF) brings the popular storytelling showcase The Moth Mainstage to the Majestic Theatre on April 7, as part of the 5th annual Book Festival weekend. Tickets are available on Ticketmaster and at the Majestic Theatre box office.
The Moth is a national not-for-profit organization that has presented more than 20,000 real stories through live storytelling since its inception in 1997. The Mainstage event is the Moth’s flagship program. It features five storytellers exploring a selected theme, often in unexpected ways. Each story is true and told without notes, resulting in a mix of documentary and theater.
“Everyone has a story,” said Katy Flato, SABF’s Executive Director, “whether it’s the authors featured at our Book Festival who wrote their stories in books or the people who take the Moth stage and share their experiences through the age-old tradition of oral storytelling. That’s what makes The Moth Mainstage a perfect event for the Book Festival to showcase. SABF is very proud to include this event as part of our 5th anniversary celebration.”
The Moth has shows in more than 25 cities; The Moth Radio Hour airs on more than 400 stations; and the podcast is downloaded more than 30 million times a year. But the ideal way to experience The Moth is live and in person. The visceral dialogue between the audience and the storyteller results in an electric, entertaining, and enlightening experience.
The Moth Mainstage in San Antonio is generously underwritten by Ernst & Young. The show is Friday, April 7 at 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:00 p.m.) at the Majestic Theatre, located at 224 E. Houston Street. Tickets are $40 general admission; $20 for students; and $100 for a VIP ticket. The VIP package includes premier seating and the opportunity to meet and greet The Moth storytellers and producers after the show at the exclusive VIP party for SABF authors and sponsors, which starts at 9:00 p.m.
