San Antonio Book Festival - Josh McCormack Joins Growing Book Festival Staff

Josh McCormack Joins Growing Book Festival Staff

As the San Antonio Book Festival enters its 7th year, changes in staffing reflect the Festival’s recent tremendous growth. Effective Tuesday, September 4, Josh McCormack joins SABF as Communications Coordinator. Josh will be responsible for the Festival’s website, social media accounts, newsletter, media outreach, and promotion, as well as correspondence to Festival authors, moderators, donors, and exhibitors. He will also work closely with the Literary Director on Festival programming.

“Josh impressed us with his strong writing background and passion for
books,” said Lilly Gonzalez, SABF’s Deputy Executive Director. “He
brings the right skill set to the table, and we loved that every time we saw
him, he was in the middle of reading a massive book. He will fit right in with
our team and we’re excited to get him up and running.”

A recent Texas A&M graduate, Josh majored in English, minored in
journalism, and served as the editor-in-chief of the student newspaper, The
Battalion
. His favorite book series is The Lord of
the Rings
by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Two new part-time staff members will also fill important roles on the expanding SABF team. Dr. Edith Esparza-Young, Educational Outreach Coordinator, will be spearheading educational outreach efforts and conducting an educational impact study. Edith is a long-time Book Festival volunteer and a bilingual educator, most recently teaching at Texas A&M San Antonio. Marcia Logan has also volunteered for SABF and now, as Special Events Coordinator, will be managing the Book Appétit Literary Feast and assisting with donor development. With a background in journalism and teaching, Marcia also worked at the Westport Public Library in Connecticut, where she was the communications director.

“It is very gratifying for us to be at a point where we can really grow our Festival staff,” says Katy Flato, SABF’s Executive Director. “Each of these talented people brings strategic skills, experience and dedication to the literary arts, and we expect the Festival to continue to expand, innovate and impact our community in important and exciting ways.”
