At the San Antonio Book Festival, we believe that the best way to expand a child’s world is to instill a love of books. The Festival’s Authors in Schools program helps encourage a passion for reading among children and teens. We pair award-winning authors with underserved, low-income schools throughout Bexar County to deliver presentations to hundreds of students, tell funny stories, share personal journeys, and describe the process of writing their books. All students in attendance receive a free, signed copy of the author’s book to take home. Making a personal connection with an author can be the motivation kids need to jump start their imagination with books.
Due to increasing demand, SABF is transitioning this program to an application process. Please complete the form below to be considered a partner school for the 2020 Authors in Schools program. If you have any questions, please email Jen Maestas, our Educational Outreach Coordinator.
- School must be located in Bexar County.
- School must be willing and able to make accommodations for the author visit to take place on either Friday, April 3, 2020 or Monday, April 6, 2020.
- Only one application per school is permitted.
- Application must be submitted by November 22, 2019.
Applications will be evaluated on their overall professionalism and creativity. SABF’s selection committee will select a maximum of six schools, representing different parts of Bexar County, for an author visit. Preference will be given to schools that implement school-wide initiatives to incorporate the book into curriculum, welcome the author, or promote the author visit. Decisions will be issued no later than December 13, 2019.
